This activity combines typing skills with other word processing skills, particularly copy and paste and working with clip art. When typing in this activity, students were able to focus on keyboarding technique due to the simplicity of the text.
In addition, only the beginning of each stanza is typed, because the repetition in the work is a great vehicle for copy and paste skill building. Understanding when and how to use this skill is of equal importance to mastering the actual process. This work contains lots of copy and paste practice opportunities.
To extend this work, students used selected vocabulary in the poem with Word’s Thesaurus function to create a table of synonyms in a separate document. Students used the Find & Replace command to replace chosen words with their choice of synonym - making the poem even sillier than ever!
