AN INTERVIEW WITH MR. MITCHELL

We have interviewed Mr Mitchell who is our school's General Assistant. He knows all about things at our school! We asked some questions about what he does to save water in our school. This is what he said:

Q. When do you water the lawn?
A. I water the lawns on Monday mornings.

Q. Do you water after rain?
A. No I don’t water after the rain.

Q. Do you use sprinklers? What type?
A. I use a sprinkler that sprays 190 deg. angle, from side to side.

Q. How long do you leave the sprinkler on?
A. I leave the sprinkler for about half an hour.

Q. How many sprinklers do we have on the lawn?
A. I have two going at the same time.

Q. Do we have a shut-off nozzle on our hoses?
A. Yes we do have a shut-off nozzle on all our hoses.

Q. How often do you check the sprinklers?
A. I check them after half an hour.

Q. Approximately how much fertilizer do you put on the garden? How often?
A. I put pellets on the garden. I use 100kg once a year.

Q. In your opinion is it important for our school to save water?
A. Yes it is, because we are short of water and it also saves money.

Q. Do you ever use our tanks for watering the garden?
A. Yes, I use the tanks and water more often in hot weather.

Q. What tanks do we have?
A. The tank near the tennis court can hold 12,000L. The other rainwater tanks are 2,100L, so 4 tanks would be 8,400L.
